Trekking in the Amalfi Coast
If you need to go away from the chaos of the cities and if you need a break from the work, the best place where to stay is certainly the Amalfi Coast. Blue sea, clear sky, great food and amazing landscapes, the Amalfi Coast is a real oasi in the south Italy. Far from the noise of the small villages and the beaches, you can escape in the many paths. The most famous and importants paths in the Amalfi Coast are certainly “Il sentiero degli Dei – Path of Gods” and “Valle delle Ferriere” but there are many others paths like the walk for the ancient tower “Torre dello Ziro” up on the mountain that overlooks on Amalfi and Atrani, the walk from Maiori to the “Santuario dell’Avvocata”, the path that connects Atrani with Ravello, the walk for “Convento di San Nicola”, which is situated up on the hills between Maiori and Minori and many other paths.
“Il sentiero degli Dei” is certainly the most requested. Usually this excursion starts from Bomerano(Agerola) until Nocelle(Positano). This path, however, has alternatives: You can also start from Vettica Maggiore (located along the coast between Amalfi and Positano) and through a staircase (recently renovated) in half an hour we arrive at the religious complex of “San Domenico”. After about two hours we will reach Nocelle (Positano) and from here you can either take a local bus to Positano or get there on foot with about an hour of extra walking. Time required for the entire path: about 3/4 hours.
“Valle delle ferriere” It is easily reached by foot from Amalfi.
Inside there are waterfalls and water routes, which make the trail very cool even in summer. The marked trails that lead to this place are two. First one starts from Amalfi – Piazza Flavio Gioia (sentiero n. 325), the other one starts from Pontone – Piazza San Giovanni (sentiero n. 323a). Time required : about 1/2 hours
“Torre dello Ziro” is easily accessible from Pontone (recommended route) or from Atrani, it is a pleasant walk between nature and history. A pine forest, crossed by several paths, surrounds the tower.
After the visit to the Tower you can continue the hike down the stairs that lead from Pontone to the center of Atrani. Time required about 2/3 hours.
“Santuario dell’Avvocata” The path allows to reach from Maiori, the “Sanctuario dell’Avvocata”. The path starts from the ancient “Casale Cicerali” which can be reached going up the Via Nuova Chiunzi for about 250 meters. Take the stairs that follows the right side of the city up to the path that leads to the Sanctuary . Time required: about 4 hours.
